Bugatti Chiron Passes 300-MPH Barrier with 304-MPH Run, Sets World Record

Ever since the Bugatti Chiron was launched, with a 261-mph speed limiter, we’ve been desperate to know what it could manage if let off the leash. Now Bugatti has done that at the vast Ehra-Lessien test track in Germany; the car smashed both the production-car record and the 300-mph barrier.

Factory test driver Andy Wallace, who previously set production-car records in both the Jaguar XJ220 and the McLaren F1, drove a slightly modified Chiron to a time, certified by the German TÜV organization, of 304.773 mp

The Chiron used was in what is described by Bugatti as “near production” spec, modified with an additional safety cell and with aerodynamic changes and higher seventh-gear ratios, which we believe will be incorporated into a celebratory limited-edition model. It also used a slightly more powerful version of the regular Chiron’s quad-turbocharged W-16 engine, turned up to produce 1600 hp, the same total made by the recently announced Centodieci.

The record was set in conjunction with Italian constructor Dallara, which makes the Chiron’s body and developed the aerodynamic kit, and also Michelin which created the very special tires capable of dealing with such huge forces, rotating up to 4100 times a minute. The specially constructed Michelin Pilot Cup 2 tires were all X-rayed before being selected for use on the car.

Kate Spade New York Co-Founder Andrew Spade Buys Bay Area Home

Andrew Spade, co-founder of luxury fashion brand Kate Spade New York, has picked up a real estate gem. He purchased a Mission-style home in an upscale neighborhood in the hills of Oakland, CA, for $3.5 million in early June.

Spade made the move to the West Coast following the death of his wife, Kate Spade, in 2018.

As often happens in the hot San Francisco Bay Area housing market, the final price went well above the home’s $2.85 million list price.

Inside Diane von Furstenberg’s Home in Manhattan

The architects of WORKac build designer Diane von Furstenberg an unconventional home next to the High Line—the city oasis she helped create

One of the great luxuries of life is a getaway that keeps clamor and chaos at a distance. Fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg’s live/work space in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District—a glass-and-steel aerie the occupant calls her “tree house”—appears to be just that. But the isolation of the lofty perch is deceiving. Just beyond its transparent walls the city’s icons, old and new, shout for attention: to the northeast the majestic Empire State Building, and to the west the High Line, a mile-and-a-half-long park built atop abandoned elevated train tracks and of which Von Furstenberg was an early champion. And all around is an edgy, effervescent quarter exuding equal parts glamour and grit.

“Everybody told me when I came to this neighborhood that I was crazy—that it was full of drag queens, that it smelled awful because of all the butchers,” says the Brussels-born designer, who moved to New York in 1969 with her first husband, Fiat scion Prince Egon von Furstenberg. (They had two children, and divorced in 1983; in 2001 she married media mogul Barry Diller.) “All of that is true,” she continues.

Twitter Founder Jack Dorsey Lists Sleek Hollywood Hills Home for $4.495 Million

The ultra-modern abode, designed by AND Studio, boasts epic views

Just a little over a year after Twitter founder Jack Dorsey dropped $4.225 million on an ultra-modern home in the Hollywood Hills, he has listed the house for $4.495 million. He reportedly bought the pad for his then-girlfriend Raven Lyn Corneil, who no longer lives there, and the tech billionaire spends the majority of his time at his spacious place in San Francisco.

The 3,730-square-foot house is located on a quiet hillside street just off Mulholland Drive, and comprises five bedrooms and four bathrooms spread out over two stories. Walls made of glass sliders offer plenty of views of the San Fernando Valley and the home’s ample outdoor space; one of the greatest features is a massive terrace on the upper floor that houses a stainless steel outdoor refrigerator and grill. A generous finished wooden deck has room enough for a lounge area, while a spacious lawn, infinity-edge swimming pool, and sunken spa one level below provide ample room for fun and relaxation.

A Home by a Frank Lloyd Wright Protégé Hits the Market

Home by Frank Lloyd Wright Protégé Hits the Market

A Barrington home designed by Dennis Blair, who studied at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West school and worked with Wright on the Guggenheim Museum, is for sale. The most remarkable aspect of the 1972 home is its interior, which was designed in a spiral-like configuration to accommodate a two-story ficus tree.

“Blair’s concept for this 1972 home centers on a 16-by-16-foot atrium in the middle of the structure,” Lou Zucaro, who represents the home for Baird & Warner, tells AD PRO. “Spread out over six mini-levels, the various spaces in the home wind up and around the atrium. While various plants have been swapped out over the years, the ficus tree has been growing in the ground under the house since it was built.” The asking price for the home at 3 Wood Rock Road is $770,000.

LOOK INSIDE TAYLOR SWIFT’S 8 INCREDIBLE HOMES

Taylor Swift may be best known for her impressive music career, though with eight homes across four states she may be adding “real estate mogul” to her repertoire pretty soon. The 28-year-old superstar is reported to own $84 million in real estate, with diverse pads ranging from a $20 million penthouse in Tribeca to an 11,000-square-foot historical landmark in California. See below for a closer look at the star’s properties.

1 TRIBECA PENTHOUSE

In 2014, Swift bought not one, but TWO adjacent penthouses in an old Tribeca building, converting them into one large duplex that has a total of 10 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, a billiards room, and an incredible sweeping staircase. The coolest part? She bought these homes from Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson.

2 NEIGHBORING TOWNHOUSE

Only three years after purchasing the two Tribeca penthouses, Swift expanded horizontally, purchasing the century-old townhouse right next door. The home, equipped with luxury amenities including a home theater, gym, guest suite and terrace, is estimated to be valued at $12.5 million.

A-Listed: Cardi B Bought Her Mom A House

Is there a time of year when celebs aren’t, in the words of the inimitable Cardi B, making money moves? Even as we head into the supposedly slower-paced holiday season, stars are buying, selling, and in the case of one former Girls star, renting out properties in New York, California, and beyond. And speaking of Cardi, you won’t believe what she bought her mom for Christmas. Yeah, no offense, but you may wanna rethink that re-gifted candle you were planning on presenting to yours. Or, um, at least add a cute homemade card or something?

Cardi B’s Homey Holiday Gift To Mom

Just before the Thanksgiving holiday, Cardi B gave her mom something to be super thankful for this year — a multi-floor residence with a gleaming marble kitchen and an in-home gym.

We don’t know much about the provenance of the real estate, but we do know that based on this video Cardi shared to her Instagram, it’s pretty fancy. “Last year I was so thirsty to buy my mom a house but the ones I was interested for her weren’t at my price range,” the Bronx-raised rapper wrote in the caption. A frugal woman after our own hearts!

Home Sweet Martha: A Look Inside All of Martha Stewart’s Homes

From New York City to the Connecticut countryside, Martha Stewart has called a number of gorgeous places home over the years. Take a look at all of her properties, both past and present.

It should come as no surprise that Martha Stewart has impeccable taste in picking a place to call home. Over the years, she’s owned more than a handful of different properties, and though each home was unique in its own right, they’re all also distinctly Martha.

Her Turkey Hill farmstead in Connecticut is what many consider Martha’s most iconic home despite the fact that she hasn’t lived there since 2007. She purchased the historic farmhouse in the early ’70s, and while renovating the home and the land that surrounded it, Martha first began to explore her passion for housewares. Since then, she’s also put down roots in New York City, the Hamptons, and Maine. Her historic vacation house in Maine, which Martha calls Skylands, which sits on Mount Desert Island, is steeped in history: Though our founder owns it now, it once belonged to the Ford family.

Bank of Thailand cuts policy rate, to 1.5%

The Bank of Thailand’s Monetary Policy Committee has made a surprise decision today to cut the policy interest rate amid pressure to avert an economic slowdown and hedge the heightened trade war between the US and China.

The MPC cut the interest rate by only 25 basis points to 1.5 %. But the cut is significant. Of the seven-member committee, five voted for the cut while two voted to maintain the rate at 1.75%.

The Thai baht has been one of the strongest currencies in the region while the Chinese yuan has been weakening. The baht and Thai government bonds are considered by foreign investors as a safe-haven. The baht ranks 18th among the world’s strongest currencies.
